DIY Coffee Scrub

Exfoliation is so important when it comes to getting great skin. This goes for the face and the body. I have discovered the power of exfoliating on the regular (and not just with a loofah), which changed my life because I always thought when I made coffee or espresso that the grounds could be put to good use other than throwing them in the compost after. But in a typical lazy fashion had never acted on those thoughts or looked into it. Then, while doing some research on skincare, I came across a home made coffee scrub and thought hey, there’s an idea! So, after whipping out my french press and brewing yet another cup of coffee (seriously I can never get enough), I decided to keep the grounds and try a little DIY.

**To be clear, the recipe calls for actual amounts, but I just eye-ball the ingredients and put as little or as much as I feel like, because that is just how I roll.

Things you will need:

Sealable container (I just use a tupperwear container)

Coffee grounds

Tea Tree Oil

Coconut oil (I used olive oil and just a little less of it because I did not have coconut oil at the time and it did work out)

After the coffee is brewed, let the grounds cool and then put them in a container. Add the coconut or olive oil, maybe like a teaspoon or tablespoon (depending how much grounds there are) and a few drops of tea tree oil. Mix it together and put the lid on. Done!

Easy right? It also does not need to be kept in the fridge, but you can keep it in the fridge if you like it to be chilled. I keep mine in a smaller container and put it in my shower. I use it about once a week and the batch will keep for about 2-3 weeks (at least that is how long I keep mine for before tossing it and making a new one). I will also mention that coffee scrubs of any kind are not the greatest for the drain so that is why I do not use it too often.

Keep in mind that if you have a sunburn or irritated skin, do not use a scrub that has a lot of exfoliating power. It will cause the skin to be more irritated and trust me, it won’t be a pleasant feeling. You can use this scrub on the face and/or body and it will leave your skin feeling super soft.
